Thank you Jess Brown

January 29, 2016

After more than 25 years of service on the Leadership Santa Cruz County Board of Directors, the Leadership Santa Cruz County organization announces that Director Jess Brown will move to serve in an advisory capacity. In a small ceremony held at Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville, Jess Brown was honored with a plaque presentation by Leadership Santa Cruz County Board of Directors Chair Camilla Boolootian and Executive Director Dave Vincent, and fittingly, a celebratory piece of apricot pie provided by fellow Leadership Santa Cruz County alumna and Farm Bureau Board of Directors member, Nita Gizdich, President of Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville.

“LSCC is the best program for people who care about Santa Cruz County and want to be involved in the community” said Brown. “It provides an opportunity to learn about all aspects of our County and what makes it a unique and vibrant community. An added benefit is the relationships that are built with fellow class members and class presenters.”

Thirty years ago, Jess Brown was a member of the inaugural class (Class 1) of Leadership Santa Cruz County. Jess serves as the long-time Executive Director of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau and the educational organization, Agri-Culture. Since his appointment in May, he is also the Executive Director of the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau.

He has served in many community leadership positions throughout his career, including but not limited to: past-president of the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County, the Monterey Museum of Art, Cabrillo College Foundation, Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County, Santa Cruz Area Chamber of Commerce and Goodwill Industries for Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of Leadership Santa Cruz County and chair of the Tannery Arts Center. He also volunteered in Africa for five years helping small-scale farmers.

“Jess’s decades of leadership experience, his deep knowledge of the nonprofit sector, and his broad community connections have been an immeasurable benefit to the Leadership Santa Cruz County organization, for which we are extremely grateful,” said Camilla Boolootian, LSCC Board Chair and Corporate Development Officer at American Red Cross Central Coast. “He has been LSCC’s longestserving Board member, and we look forward to his continued involvement in the organization as a member of our Advisory Board.”
