August 22
Welcome, introductions, program guidelines.

TWO-DAY LEADERSHIP RETREAT  
September 14 & 15
A two-day retreat with challenging team-building exercises, an overview of community issues, and a self-assessment exercise. 

​

HOUSING & ECONOMICS
October 6
Local housing and economic issues followed by a planning and design exercise.

​

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES  

November 3
A look at the community’s health care and human services and field trips to local human service providers.

​

BUSINESS & TOURISM  
December 1
Gain an understanding of small business and tourism issues.  This day includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Boardwalk and a field trip to a local business.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT  
January 12
Presentations from state, county and local political leaders on the policy issues important to Santa Cruz County.

​

EDUCATION 
February 2
Interaction with leaders from our public schools (k-12), community college and university.

​

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM  
March 1
Meet leaders in law enforcement, the District Attorney, and the public defender. Visit the county jail and the Watsonville Courthouse.

THE PAJARO VALLEY   
March 22
This day involves a tour of the Pajaro Valley with a focus on the history, events and resources that have shaped this part of the county.

​

AGRICULTURE
April 12
Visit agricultural sites in the Pajaro Valley.  Learn about the importance and challenges of this major industry in our community.


ART & CULTURE 
May 10
Discover the diversity and richness of the art and culture of the community which adds to the uniqueness of Santa Cruz. 

​

ENVIRONMENT & INDUSTRY 
June 7
Exposure to issues related to the area’s natural resources. Includes examples of sustainable industries along the North Coast.

​

GRADUATION  
June 13
Celebrate the year’s accomplishments and the awarding of graduation certificates. Then begin involvement with the LSCC Alumni Association.

We're delighted to welcome you to the program! Your enrollment signifies your commitment to learning and engaging with the course material. Attendance is mandatory. No more than 1.5 cumulative class days may be missed. 

 

Please be informed that once the class commences, no refunds will be granted. This policy is in place to ensure a fair and consistent learning experience for all participants. We understand that unexpected circumstances might arise, but due to the dynamic nature of our interactive classes, late withdrawals can disrupt the learning process for both you and your fellow class members. We encourage you to review the course details, schedule, and requirements thoroughly before enrollment. Your dedication to the class is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to an enriching leadership journey together. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team before the class days begin.
