Local Government Day

Class 31's Local Government Day began at the Scotts Valley Civic Center. Class members Trina Coffman-Gomez and Jimmy Dutra, shared their current experience serving on the Watsonville City Council. County of Santa Cruz Assistant County Administrator, Carlos Palacios and Assemblymember Mark Stone led discussions on city, county, and state governments.

After a delicious lunch hosted by the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce and Bruno's BBQ the class was given a tour of the Scotts Valley Library. Then Supervisor Bruce McPherson drew upon his many years in government as an Assembymember, a Senator, and as the California Secretary of State. The day ended with a presentation by Scotts Valley Interim City Manager, Corrie Kates, explaining community improvements that were a result of city government action.

The day was sponsored by our long-time partner Bay Federal Credit Union.
