Housing & Economics Day
Leadership Santa Cruz County Class 32 met on October 7th to learn about and discuss the many aspects of housing and economics as they apply to Santa Cruz County. Fred Keeley set the stage with his broad historical overview of economic factors that have brought us to where we are today. This was followed by Board of Supervisor, Ryan Coonerty who discussed the many changes on the horizon that businesses and the #workforce will face. The complex issue of housing throughout the county were tackled by Barbara Mason, Economic Development Coordinator for the county and Class 28 alum, and Julie Conway, who is the county’s housing coordinator as well as a current class member. After lunch the class heard from a great panel about economic development, transportation, and workforce issues. The panel was comprised of Bonnie Robinson Lipscomb, Director of Economic Development for the city of Santa Cruz, Casey Beyer, Executive Director – SCCBC - Santa Cruz County Business Council; and Ed Durkee, President/CEO Goodwill Central Coast. The day ended with the class learning the value of a charrette from Matthew Thompson, President, Thacher & Thompson Architects. Thank you Santa Cruz County Association of Realtors for sponsoring this very valuable and educational day.
