Business & Tourism Day

Class 32 couldn't ask for a better day for their session on Business & Tourism. The weather was beautiful, the setting at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk was superb, and the presentations were thought-provoking. The day started with a welcome from the Boardwalk's Director of Community Relations, Kris Reyes and from the Day's Sponsor, Beth Carr, CEO of the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union. This was followed by a discussion on transportation lead by RTC's Deputy Director, Luis Mendez and class member Ginger Dykaar. Teresa Thomae followed this with a presentation highlighting the small business landscape within the county. The class then broke into groups with visits to Assembly, NextSpace Santa Cruz, Erik's DeliCafe, and Cruzio Internet. After lunch the class had a chance to hear from Maggie Ivy, CEO of Visit Santa Cruz, and a very interesting talk on the Boardwalk combining its history and leaders by Ted Whiting, Vice President of General Services for the Santa Cruz Seaside Company. The highlight of the day came when Sondra Woods, Advertising Director for the Boardwalk gave a wonderful behind-the-scenes tour of the amusement park. The day turned out to be a memorable experience for all. That you to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union for making this educational opportunity possible.
