Leadership Santa Cruz County Class 32 experienced a phenomenal Education Day. This was the first time a leadership class had the opportunity to observe a process at Watsonville High School where freshmen are recruited into various academies for their following three years. The class toured the Ceiba College Preparatory Academy; another first for LSCC. Lunch back at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education (SCCOE) was prepared and served by the Regional Occupational Program students enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program. Then County Superintendent of Schools, Michael Watkins briefly discussed countywide k-12 issues and moderated a panel of Superintendents who answered question from Class 32.
By mid-afternoon the class headed to the arboretum at UC Santa Cruz and had a chance to hear from Chancellor Blumenthal. The Chancellor cover a variety of issues facing the university and then opened the talk up to questions. This was followed by a presentation on Cabrillo College by Leadership board member Kristin Fabos, Marketing and Communications Director for Cabrillo, and Terrence Willett, Dean of Research, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness. They day ended with a tour of the UCSC Arboretum.
