Agriculture Day

What perfect weather for LSCC's Agricultural Day! The sun was shining brightly, flowers were blooming, and the bees were buzzing. The class began at the Agriculture History Museum with presentations from the Agricultural Commissioner and his Deputy and another about a sister program called Agri-Culture. Agriculture History Project CEO, John Kegebein, provided a quick tour of the museum and grounds. Then the class boarded the Metro bus and toured California Pajarosa where they learned the art and science of hydroponic rose growing. Next they enjoyed lunch at Gizdich Ranch and learned firsthand about its history from Nita Gizditch (Class 13). From there they headed to Live Earth Farms to learn about Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA). And the day ended with a stop at the Martinelli’s Company Store. Director of Marketing and Sales, Tony Robinson shared insights about the company’s history while the class sampled several varieties of wonderful apple juice. It was a great day with a lot of learning about this important industry in our community.
