Environment & Sustainable Industry Day

What a way to end the class year! June 1st turned out to be a gorgeous day, great for spending most of it outdoors. The day started at the Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center with a talk and tour by Program Manager, Chelsea Prindle. This was a first-time visit for many in the class. Then John Ricker, County Water Resources Division Director, followed this with a presentation on water issues facing our county. And then class member Amanda Segers talked about her organization, Friend of Santa Cruz State Parks, and how it fits into the picture in terms of being a advocate for our environment. Next the class hopped onto the METRO bus for a tour of the Big Creek and Graniterock properties along the North Coast. Here, they learned how these businesses manage their properties with best management practices so as to have the least impact on the natural resources – especially threatened and endangered species. It was a fun way to end the program with lots of new information about the environment we all enjoy.
