Health and Human Services Day
Class 34 met at Cabrillo College for their Health & Human Services day. This was a full day of learning about the opportunities and challenges facing our community in terms of health and human services. Mimi Hall, Dir. Health Services Agency, started the day with a broad overview of health issues facing our community. Next the class got to hear from several health providers about their work in Santa Cruz County. This was followed with a panel discussion on mental health issues and substance abuse. In a similar fashion, the class learned about human service issues. Kimberly Petersen and Jessica Scheiner represented the Human Services Department and addressed some of the issues facing the county. The final panel for the day spoke about immigration and homeless concerns. The day ended with the class breaking up into groups and going to Dominican Hospital, Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz, The CA Alliance, and Hospice of Santa Cruz County. The class was asked to join the LSCC Board in making a contribution toward the Second Harvest Food Bank’s food drive. Class 34 responded with a donation of over $1,000!
A big thanks to our sponsor for the day, Kaiser Permanente!
