Santa Cruz County has long been a place that prioritizes the environment and sustainability. The voters enacted urban growth boundaries around the county to limit sprawl and protect agricultural land and open space. The community also worked hard to have the National Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary established. Finally, our county has long been a leader in organic agriculture, water conservation, curbside recycling, renewable energy and banning products like styrofoam cups and single use toiletries.
As we all know, Santa Cruz County is also at the whim of mother nature. We experience floods, fires, tsunamis, draughts, and earthquakes. This necessitates that we prioritize resilience in our infrastructure and social networks. Class 38 explored climate resilience and sustainable forest industry practices during their their Environment Day. We promised a unique experience that most people would never see in their lifetimes. And we delivered!

Special thanks to Big Creek Lumber, San Lorenzo Valley Chamber of Commerce, Santa Cruz METRO, and the team at San Vicente Redwoods.
