Local Government Day provided attendees with a comprehensive look at how local government operates and is funded. Participants learned about the structure of county and city government, budgeting processes, and the delivery of essential public services like transportation, water, libraries, and infrastructure through presentations from local officials and hands-on exercises. Pictured above, County Executive Officer Nicole Coburn discussed county operations with the class.
The day also focused on civic engagement and participation in local democracy. Attendees explored various pathways for getting involved in their communities, heard from citizens already serving in local government roles, and received practical guidance on effective advocacy and making government more responsive to community needs.
